Welcome To Vega

Welcome, My name is Evie and I opened the dance studio in 2004 to give us adults a place to dance here in Portland. At the time (and times have changed) there just wasn’t anything in Portland or the surrounding Portland metro back then where I could to take an adult-based drop-in dance class. You know, where I could just stop by whenever my schedule allowed me to. A dance studio where I could take whatever class that I was in the mood for that day. So I rolled up my sleeves and with the help of two talented friends that donated their skills as instructors, I opened the studio.

Whether it’s for the first time, or you are adding us to your current repertoire of dance, or you are starting to dance again after a ten-year break! Vega Dance+Lab is a warm friendly and supportive environment to dance at. We are located at 1322 SE Water Ave. in the heart of Portland’s southeast industrial district, inside an old brick warehouse-turned-dance studio. We are an adult-based drop-in dance studio.We offer classes in formats such as hip hop, jazz, lyrical, sexy jazz (Burly Q), sexy hip hop (Hip Hop Cabaret), contemporary and even a Dance Fitness class or two or three! Here are the highlights that will give you a better understanding of what we are all about.

Message for Beginners

Dance is not easy. Even the beginning classes may seem challenging to a new dancer, and just know that it’s part of the journey. Repetition is the key to success with dancing, and it’s okay if it takes a while to sink in. There’s a reason why there are television shows with dance contests where the winners receive national attention, and hundreds of thousands of dollars for winning. It’s a skill. And skills take time to hone and perfect. But never fear! It’s still very fun, and the learning curve is amazingly fast, provided you give it a few tries.

All the teachers have been hand-picked because they are natural teachers. An excellent dancer doesn’t necessarily make a great teacher. At Vega, we have both. Classes are taught with humor, patience, and understanding, as well as determination to get people to try something out of their comfort zone. We do have to push you a little bit so you will get better.

Note For Seasoned Dancers

Here at Vega Dance+Lab, we have classes that generally fit most levels of ability. Some classes are designed to challenge you and make you better at your craft, or help you possibly think of it in a new light. Some classes are designed to be welcoming to those dancers who are new to the dance world and therefore easier for someone like you. However, even the “less-challenging” classes will always have fun and creative choreography, and many advanced-ish dancers still attend them simply because the class makes them look and feel good. And sometimes those classes are very good for those dancers who could use a session in really performing the choreography and bringing a character to life instead of just taking classes that are hard for you.
